The Publishing House
Idea Books was founded in Milan in 1970, specializing in the publication of image books and the visual arts of the twentieth century, thanks to the know-how achieved in the previous activity of distributing catalogs of major international art exhibitions.
Over the years the publishing house’s activity has distinguished itself for an innovative dynamism, which has introduced some of the most famous photographers on the international scene to Italy, curating monographic publications signed by famous critics.
Idea Books has also dedicated itself to design, graphics and architecture, publishing the works of some of the most important Italian and foreign artists.
There are many titles in the catalog, with sections and series that explore issues related to lifestyle, art and architecture.
The ‘art of living’ series is divided into a series of projects that have the structure of photographic stories. A journey through the landscape to rediscover the values of the area, the artistic and cultural heritage of places rich in charm and history, as well as being an exclusive visit to the interiors of some of the most welcoming homes where the tradition of hospitality is renewed. The proposed formula has met with great success and the books have been coedited all over the world, achieving international success.
In the series dedicated to designer design, the monograph by Carlo Mollino and the furniture catalog by the same author have been published; the monograph by Magistretti, Colombo and Munari had already been published in the same series.
As regards the most prestigious Italian design, the historic Riva motorboats and the most beautiful prototypes of Ferrari cars have been published, in a special edition with mahogany covers for the motorboats and Ferrari red steel for the other.
For the series relating to art, collecting and furniture, volumes have been published that develop these themes through the interpretation of famous photographers, such as in the books Sammezzano and Caftans.
The promotion on the national territory was entrusted to the De Agostini sales network, the distribution to Messaggerie Italiane.
